EVO 2019 comes back to Las Vegas's @MandalayBay on August 2-4, 2019!
Happy Halloween, gamers! Here’s a treat that will leave your mouth watering.
The fabled Evolution Championship Series, which is celebrated annually as the fighting game community’s most challenging tournament of all, is making a return trip to the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on August 2-4, 2019!
This event will follow a half-year after the second entry for its Japanese iteration: EVO Japan 2019. Contrary to its debut event in 2018, it will take place in Fukuoka on February 15-17, 2019.
Since 2016, the mainstream EVO found its home in Mandalay Bay, where the 2016 and 2017 World Finals were broadcast to television networks via ESPN2 and Disney XD. However, the streak was broken in 2018 as EVO was scheduled simultaneously with Blizzard’s Overwatch League, and the spotlight was prioritized for the latter.
Regardless, growth has continued to accelerate at an increasing rate, particularly since the relocation to Mandalay Bay. In fact, over 11,000 players registered for an eight-game lineup at EVO 2018, and that number doesn’t take into account the players who’d also made a detour to a staggering number of side tournaments for games like Soul Calibur VI and Smash Ultimate, both of which had not yet been released at the time (though Soul Calibur VI is now on sale).
So what else lies in wait for EVO? Well, their latest trailer below may offer a clue!
Registration for EVO 2019 has yet to open at this time. We will update you when that changes. In the meantime, look forward to EVO Japan’s second run in Fukuoka this February!
