Japanese Rashid player @gachikun0423 joins with @redbullesports
As esports continues to evolve, more and more competitors are surfing the waves of sponsorship. Some, however, have not had that opportunity yet, in spite of providing irrefutable evidence of their ability to stand with the best of the best.
But as the 2018 season for the Capcom Pro Tour approaches its end, one of those dark horses will finally step into a spotlight provided by Red Bull Esports.
That player is Kanamori “Gachikun” Tsunehiro, a formidable Rashid specialist hailing from Japan.
Gachikun’s Rashid attracted attention in the beginning season for Street Fighter V, and from there it snowballed into a roller coaster ride. His appearance in an event often culminated in a finish among the upper echelon of Top 8, with his path colored by victories over many established Street Fighter players.
He qualified for the 2017 Capcom Cup in Anaheim, CA, where he finished in the 17th-24th range out of 32 players. However, after an outstanding victory at the Southeast Asia Major 2018 in Singapore, Gachikun is 100% guaranteed to make a return to Capcom Cup 2018, which will be held at the Las Vegas Esports Arena this year.
The winds of fortune have also guided the Japanese champion into the Top 8 of the Evolution 2018 Championships for Street Fighter V, where he finished in fourth place. Though his results last year proved tremendous, 2018 marks a significant step up the ladder for him.
Gachikun’s signing today places him among the ranks of esports giants such as Hoa “Anakin” Luu (Tekken), Darryl “Snake Eyez” Lewis (Street Fighter), and William “Leffen” Hjelte (Smash Melee).
While fans of Gachikun bask in this development, it’s worth noting that Red Bull Esports is gearing up for the next entry in a yearly event called the Red Bull Kumite, which will occur at the Salle Wagram in Paris on November 10-11. Up to sixteen players, fourteen invited and the last two decided by an LCQ the day before, will compete inside a caged arena as the world waits for the next Kumite champion to be crowned.
Following that, the North American Regional Finals for the 2018 Capcom Pro Tour will be hosted by Red Bull at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington DC. The Regional Finals will take place one week after Red Bull Kumite, on November 17-18.
