Combo Breaker (#CB2019) returns to the Mega Center with a 23-game lineup on May 24-26, 2019!

The event, aptly named for Killer Instinct’s Combo Breaker mechanic, will return to the Mega Center at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Illinois on May 24-26, 2019!

For the third year in a row, the Midwest’s biggest fighting game tournament will be housed in a 24/7 venue for all three days of the weekend. After replacing its predecessor UFGT (Ultimate Fighting Game Tournament) in 2015, Combo Breaker made the transition to the Mega Center in 2017 so as to accommodate the rapid inflation in attendants.

From 2017 to 2018, Combo Breaker has seen a monumental increase in attendance by 1,530, up from 736. Similar to CEO and the Evolution Championships, it has also attracted the attention of various media outlets not originally associated with the gaming community, including local news outlets in and near Chicago.

Almost immediately after the announcement surfaced today, Rick “@TheHadou” Thither, the Event Director for Combo Breaker, commented that the event’s official site - found here - crashed, but fortunately service was restored shortly afterward. Furthermore, within the first two hours of registration, literally every title in the lineup - all of them - has gained at least one participant. These facts are a testament to the mountainous interest that gamers everywhere are harboring towards Combo Breaker.

So what are the games we can look forward to competing in for this year? Well, the CB2019 lineup is set to include four newcomers: Super Smash Bros Ultimate, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, Soul Calibur VI, and the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 11 by Netherrealm Studios, which is due for release on April 23rd. Ironically, Netherrealm is located around 40 miles away from the Mega Center.

The other games returning to or joining the lineup are as follows:

  • Killer Instinct

  • Street Fighter V Arcade Edition

  • 3rd Strike Street Fighter 3

  • Dragonball FighterZ

  • Skullgirls 2nd Encore

  • Street Fighter Alpha 2

  • Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo

  • Tekken 7

  • Marvel vs Capcom Infinite

  • Vampire Savior

  • Capcom vs SNK 2

  • Guilty Gear XRD Revelator 2

  • Under Night In-Birth EXE: Late[st]

  • The King of Fighters XIV

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters

  • Soul Calibur 2

  • Marvel vs Capcom 2

  • Street Fighter EX2 Plus

Also returning is the Mystery Game Tournament, a special bracket where competitors will be competing in a game chosen entirely at random. Unlike with the previous iterations of the event, the Mystery Game Tournament will have a 256-player cap for its brackets. Participate if you can stand the chaos!

Combo Breaker has been previously affiliated with a growing collection of pro tours over the years, each of which have offered additional prize pools and qualifying spots for the championships of each tour, including the Capcom Pro Tour (SFVAE) and the Tekken World Tour (Tekken 7). Both are confirmed to make a return for the 2019 season, whereas others have yet to be announced at this time.

The Mega Center comes equipped with a 60,000 square foot Expo Center and ballrooms, concert staging, resort food options, and of course, FREE WI-FI. Naturally the Pheasant Run Resort will be the primary hotel of choice. To book your room, you must visit or call the resort directly and say that you are specifically booking a room for Combo Breaker 2019.
