Super Smash Bros. comes to the Nintendo Switch this year!

Today, Nintendo hosted a Nintendo Direct live-stream to reveal a variety of titles coming to the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch this year.

What awaited us at the end, however, would throw us for a loop. After Nintendo released details on an upcoming update for Splatoon 2 in April, they dropped a special clip that left everyone dumbstruck...

It looks like Nintendo's legendary fighting franchise, Super Smash Bros., will be headed directly to the Nintendo Switch this year! But of course, the nature of the teaser begs this question: is it merely a port of Smash 4 from the Wii-U to the Switch, similar to what was done with Mario Kart 8 and Pokken Tournament DX? Or is it a legitimate sequel to the franchise...in other words, Smash 5?!

Nothing more was said after the trailer was shown, because the Direct came to an end afterward. So once again, we are left to speculate what awaits the Smash Bros. franchise.

We'd like to pause, however, to note these next few images from the reveal trailer...

As the trailer unfolded, the Smash logo lit up in front of two of the characters from Splatoon 2. We also glimpsed the shadowy silhouettes of Mario and Link, both of whom were made visible by the flaming Smash logo. Fans instantly took notice of Link wearing his attire from the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Whatever this trailer indicates, we won't truly know until Nintendo elaborates. For now, if you'd like to check out the clip, visit the YouTube archive below and skip to around 33:30 mark!
