A new Mortal Kombat title set to be revealed at Combo Breaker 2018 (#CB2018)?!
Please note before reading that this article does not confirm any concrete details about a new Mortal Kombat title, although given recent circumstances, the possibilities discussed in this post are not outside the realm of logic.
An interesting post surfaced over at the 4chan forums today to share rumors of a plan by WB Games to host another livestream for their upcoming titles this year. This stream is to take place at E3 2018, which occurs in Los Angeles on June 12-14.
The post mentions that WB Games will cover gameplay trailers for two games called Lego Incredibles and Lego DC Villains. What caught everyone's eye, however, is that Netherrealm Studios is also listed in the post, and that there will be a reveal trailer for the newest Mortal Kombat title at Combo Breaker 2018, which is scheduled for this weekend.
Skeptical? Take a look at this post from 4chan and/or at the Twitter post below (the Twitter post is shared by @Forkxx).
The above Twitter post reads as follows when translated to English:
"Rumors of a new Mortal Kombat appeared by 4chan pointing the Combo Breaker next weekend with a teaser from MK11 with final announcement at E3. A lot of things fit into the tradition of Netherrealm — from the teasers tradition to the alternating frequency with injustice. "
This 4chan post could be the byproduct of fans grasping at straws, but something to consider is that Combo Breaker has practically been a home to titles developed by NetherRealm Studios, which is located nearby the Mega Center...at Chicago, as a matter of fact. And this year, all of NRS's titles, with the exception of Injustice 1, will be splitting time on the main stage among themselves. In addition, Combo Breaker is the first of many events tied to Season 2 of the Injustice 2 Pro Series.
Reveal trailers for content regarding NRS games have also taken place at Combo Breaker in the past, including last year's reveal of Red Hood as the first DLC fighter for the company's latest fighting game, Injustice 2. Taking all of the above details into account, it's not that easy to dismiss the idea that a new Mortal Kombat could in fact be unveiled at Combo Breaker, and/or perhaps at E3 later this year.
This "rumor" also comes after some eyebrow raisers caused by Mr. Ed Boon, who has been known to tease his fans with cryptic Twitter posts that hint towards what is to come for NRS's tournament community, all of which have proven to be true thus far. Also, an interesting image of what appears to be an edited MKX logo has been shared by Eurogamer's deputy editor. See this article to learn more.
Make sure to tune in to Combo Breaker this weekend to enjoy almost twenty games full of heart-stopping high-level action from thousands of players worldwide at the Mega Center! And be sure to keep your fingers crossed in hopes that a new MK title sees the light of day this year.
