2018-2019 Fortnite Competitive Season will lead up to first Fortnite World Cup in late 2019!
Since the launch of Fortnite early last year, the player base has rapidly expanded beyond the expectations of Epic Games. This week, the company acknowledged that over 125 million players had downloaded copies of Fortnite, a fact that isn't entirely surprising given the incredible amount of attention it has received from media outlets.
Now, the developers are gifting their players with an opportunity like none other. You may recall their previous announcement in May concerning a $100,000,000 prize pool that would be split across a number of Fortnite tournaments in the 2018-2019 season. As of this week, Epic Games has disclosed details regarding the first-ever Fortnite World Cup, coming in late 2019!
Epic Games will be dividing their phenomenal prize pool between multiple community events around the entire globe, as well as online. Everyone will get a chance to participate, and everyone will have a chance to win. While the focus will be on Solos and Duos, squads will definitely get their share of the fun as well.
The first qualifiers for the Fortnite World Cup will begin this later this fall. All qualifications will be based on merit. Also, as per a ruling set forth by Epic, they will not be selling teams or franchises, and all third-party leagues will be forbidden to do so as well.
The complete ruleset for all events tied to the Fortnite World Cup have yet to be released, but Epic has gone on the record to state that they are in the works. We'll be watching closely for any additional details that surface.
