Method @SylverRye wins #WarOfTheGods S3 Week 2!

This has been a long time coming.

Since we launched the Kombat Cup, SylverRye has been making non-stop appearances in our NRS circuits. His latest achievement was finishing inside the Top 3 for the Season 2 Finale of War of the Gods, with only EMPEROR KOMBAT and Noble Tweedy finishing above him.

From Kombat Cup Season 1 to War of the Gods Season 3, Rye has been an all-around excellent display of commitment, humility, interaction - essentially, all of the ingredients that make up the recipe for an accomplished player. Many have awaited the day when he would claim an entire bracket for himself. As of the Week 2 finals for War Season 3, that moment has finally arrived!

Rye's run through the Top 8 began from the Winner's side, where he tussled with HZRDS KNICKS's Black Manta in a clash of the titans. The set extended to five games as the result of a three-match comeback from Method's champion, an outcome that advanced him to Winner's Finals where he would face another upcoming star: RLN TitaniumTigerzz, who'd upset BC HoneyBee with a convincing 3-0 victory.

The  course of the set between Tigerzz and Rye closely mirrored that of Rye's set against KNICKS, except that Tigerzz put a stop to Rye's second attempt at a runback by taking Game 5 for himself. Immediately the hot topic in the chat diverted to a discussion as to whether or not Brainiac, a character whose tier placement is among the most debated thus far, would finally claim victory in a War of the Gods bracket.

It was not long before the next surprise came our way, however. A sibling rivalry between Biohazard and HoneyBee broke out in Loser's Quarters, but rather than Bane, Bio deferred to his Black Manta to take on the Flash God Lord. The set was as close as many anticipated it to be, as the brothers' struggle to control the neutral lasted for five games straight. Finally, Bio struck the winning blow against his sibling in Game 5, earning himself his spot in the upper half of Top 8.

In spite of Bio's triumph, the pressure had yet to lift. Noble Semiij, who'd previously started off the third season with his win in Week 1, had eliminated Tweedy and KNICKS to secure his place in Loser's Semifinals, meaning that he would have to face down Biohazard. With a pocket Starfire lurking in Semiij's lineup, it was anticipated that Semiij would use her to keep Bio's Bane at bay. Instead, the two clashed with one another using their trademark fighters: Catwoman and Bane.

What followed was an outcome that nobody was ready for: a 3-0 victory in favor of BC Biohazard. This would put an end to Semiij's uncanny win streak as far as weekly brackets in War of the Gods were concerned, defying predictions that he would maintain such a streak in Season 3. It was now truly anyone's game to win in Week 2.

With Biohazard in Loser's Finals, he and Method SylverRye squared off for the right to challenge TitaniumTigerzz. Bio swiftly pocketed his Bane again to replay his Black Manta, not trusting in Bane's chances against Rye's Hellboy. After suffering a dent in his armor, Bio succeeded in taking a victory over his opponent. In response, Rye took a page from Bio's book by going back to his previous iconic fighter: Batman.

Caught unawares by the change, Bio found his progress becoming shaky in the second half of the set, but he refused to endure the uphill battle of overcoming Batman's zoning as Bane, so he stuck to his guns (or lasers in this case). Yet, Rye's Batman had a convincing message to send to Bio as he took the set 3-1:

"I'm Batman."

However, it would not be the Dark Knight's time to rise in Grand Finals. Instead, Rye opted to drag TitaniumTigerzz back to Hell so as to finish him off there. Their first set ran a course so one-sided that it actually jarred Tigerzz's resolve significantly. With two quick wins under Rye's belt, Tigerzz opted for a last-minute surprise by swapping to the Clown Prince of Crime: the JOKER. Yet, Rye proceeded to reset the bracket 3-0.

Instead of returning to Brainiac, Tigerzz continued to shock us all with the Joker's arsenal. The set began with a chaotic win in favor of Tigerzz, but sadly, that would be his only achievement in Grand Finals. Rye, his composure steely as ever, leapt and blasted his way to victory for three games straight, effectively turning the Joker's grin upside-down. No comedy to be found here in War of the Gods!

As the result of a convincing adaptation on Rye's part, we are happy to declare him the Week 2 champion for War Season 3!
