Capcom Cup 2018 will take place at the Las Vegas @EsportsArena on December 14-16!

A recent announcement by Capcom confirms the location of this year’s Capcom Pro Tour finals, also known as Capcom Cup 2018.

However, for this year, it’s not headed to the Anaheim Convention Center to run in synergy with the Playstation Experience, a yearly festival conducted by Sony to treat their customers to the company’s future plans for the PlayStation brand.

Instead, the finale to the 2018 Capcom Pro Tour will be happening at the Las Vegas Esports Arena on December 14-16, 2018! The arena, a thirty-story pyramid topped with a 315,000 light beam, can be found at the Luxor Hotel and Casino, located two miles from the McCarran International Airport.

But the Capcom Cup’s relocation to Vegas is far from the first of a handful of departures the circuit has taken this year.

As stated in the Twitter post above, while the number of players guaranteed for the Cup remains at thirty-two, an additional twist has been applied to the qualification process. The following players who meet one of a handful of criteria provided in the CPT rules will be locked in as a CPT 2018 finalist.

  • becoming the Capcom Cup 2017 Champion - in this case, RISE MenaRD.

  • qualifying by placing within the Top 26 in the CPT Regional Leaderboards, which can be reviewed here.

  • by winning one of four Regional Finals in four different locations: North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia.

  • by winning the CPT 2018 Last Chance Qualifier.

The LCQ was first implemented for last year’s Capcom Cup, and it has met with a resounding stage of applause from the Street Fighter community. In light of this positive feedback, the LCQ is returning for a second year, and the winner will immediately progress to the final 32-player bracket that will decide this year’s Capcom Cup Champion.

In addition, a lineup of special guests will be welcomed to Capcom Cup 2018 this December. Said guests have not been identified at this time.

Furthermore, the finalists will compete for a prize pool of $250,000, though the amount will increase depending on how well the sales for the CPT2018 DLC package go. That prize pool increased to well over $370,000 last year, marking a significant step-up for the event. Whether or not this trend will continue in 2018 remains to be seen.

Speaking of the DLC package, it comes with a special stage designed to celebrate this year’s CPT: the Ring of Power, similar to the Ring of Pride and Ring of Destiny stages released over the last two years except with a theme based on Shadaloo, the evil corporation in the Street Fighter universe headed by M. Bison, who is regularly recognized as the lead antagonist in the franchise.

Along with the stage, every Street Fighter V character will be gifted with a special color (EX05) to celebrate the Capcom Pro Tour. Special costumes designed specifically for a handful of characters are also included, such as Birdie’s Champion’s Choice costume, which has been tailored to the liking of the Capcom Cup 2017 Champion.

The CPT2018 DLC package can be purchased here for PlayStation 4, whereas Steam users can buy their version of the package at the Steam website. All proceeds will go towards raising the prize pool for this year’s Capcom Cup.

For those looking to follow the Capcom Pro Tour, the European Regional Finals are coming up in EGX, which will take place in Birmingham, England. EGX will consist of an open bracket, a CPT Ranking Event with $15,000, Global Points and EU Regional Points to be won; and the European CPT Regional Final, which will consist of the Top 8 points holders archived on the European CPT Leaderboards (seen here).

The winner of the Regional Final will be immediately locked in as a finalist for Capcom Cup 2018. In addition, another $15,000 prize pool will be split between the EU Regional Finalists.

The complete schedule for the 2018 Capcom Pro Tour can be found here.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, the flagship title for the CPT, is available on PlayStation 4 and Steam, both of which feature a compatible cross-play system.
